Job Description

Position Overview:
We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Production Technician to join our dynamic team.
The ideal candidate will have experience in the glass industry and have a strong commitment to
quality and safety standards.
Experience in production, manufacturing, carpentry and construction will also be considered an asset.

Principal Duties

Key Responsibilities:
• Fabricate security panels and Rockglass IGU’s according to specifications and quality
standards
• Inspecting glass surfaces for imperfections.
• Operate machinery and hand tools safely and efficiently
• Ensure quality control and adherence to safety standards
• Collaborate with team members to meet quality and production targets.
• Perform specialized tasks such as spacer application, argon filling, sealing, etc.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace

Qualifications

Qualifications:
• Experience in the glass industry is preferred
• Experience in manufacturing or production is a strong asset
• Strong attention to detail and quality
• Ability to work in a high-paced environment
• Ability to lift and move heavy materials up to 100 lbs
• Basic understanding of math is required for understanding measurements.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new techniques and challenges
• Must have reliable mode of transportation
• Steel-toed safety boots required.

Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Repairs, prepares and performs general maintenance to walls, ceilings and other surfaces in order to apply a variety of paints, materials and textures to surfaces (e.g. spray painting, stippling, texturing, drywall taping, plastering, adhesives, vinyl wall coverings, etc.).
  • Orders materials and supplies as required.
  • Mixes colours and tints paint from a variety of descriptions and matches existing colours on surfaces for which colour charts are sometimes no longer available.
  • Prepares special mixes and applications which will resist damage for certain surfaces (e.g. epoxies, textures, etc.).
  • Strips, repairs and refinishes hardwood floors and furniture and uses stains to match existing surfaces.
  • Acts as a consultant to departments, supervisors, contractors and students and recommends types of finishes to be applied to given surfaces.
  • Supervises painting projects as required or assigned.
  • Researches new techniques, products and methods to apply new finishes to surfaces.
  • Maintains a record of completed tasks (finishes, time requirements, colour, work area, dates, etc.) for future reference.
  • Acts on job requisitions and brings them to completion.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean and safe condition.
  • Works with other trades in Facilities on repair and renovation projects.
  • Assists in evacuations, according to procedures, in a safe and responsible manner, whenever necessary.
  • Is responsible for security, maintenance and repair of all tools and equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school completion or acceptable alternative.
  • At least five years of directly related experience.
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of the sections of the building and fire codes and trade standards applicable to the painting trade.
  • Must be able to perform all work related to the trade independently.
  • Must be able to work at heights on ladders, scaffolds and swing stages as required.
  • Must be able to supervise others and communicate and work effectively with all staff, students and the public.
  • Must be able to handle and operate all tools and equipment necessary for the performance of duties.
  • Must be able to multi-task and be flexible with work schedules.
  • Must be capable of performing the duties as assigned.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Must be able to lift and transport heavy items without accident or injury (up to 50 lb.)
  • Must possess a valid Certificate of Qualification as a Painter, issued by the Manitoba Department of Labour.
