Description
Manitoba Construction Sector Council has collaborated with industry partners to create a carpentry finisher course to address specific training gaps in the homebuilding industry throughout Manitoba. This program focuses specifically on finishing a house. It is designed for the construction worker who has completed the MCSC Framer course, the Residential Flatwork Technician course or has equivalent construction experience. The finisher course combines classroom and practical learning activities. It will teach technical skills (knowledge of tools, equipment and processes) and will embed safety training and Essential Skills throughout the program (reading, measurement document use, communication, physical dexterity, working with others).

Entrance Requirements
- Graduate of the MCSC Framer course or the Residential Flatwork Technician course. (Equivalent experience in the construction industry will also be considered.)
- Interest in working in the construction industry

Course Modules
Module 1
Maintain a safe workplace.
Module 2
Identify and safely use the tools, equipment, materials, and processes needed to complete carpentry, interior and exterior  finishing projects.
Module 3
Describe the installation procedures for exterior finishing products, including doors, windows, roofing materials, and siding.
Module 4
Describe the installation procedures for interior finishing products, including flooring, countertops, interior doors, and hardware and cabinets.
Module 5
Identify and apply formulas for calculating interior and exterior finishing projects including perimeter, area, and material estimates.
Module 6
Interpret blueprints and other documents to prepare for interior/exterior finishing projects.
