Job Description

We are seeking qualified individuals to train for a career as a Service Person.
This 4-year apprenticeship program includes on-the-job training and 12 weeks of competency-based classroom training that
prepares you for a career as a Service Person. Service Persons will repair, inspect, and service any type of gas and gas related
appliances and equipment, install and change meters of any size. On occasion, may be required to perform other functions
commensurate with capabilities.

Principal Duties

Responsibilities:
– Repairs, replaces, adjusts, and services all sizes of gas equipment including meters.
– Installs, inspects, services, or connects any type or size of gas appliance or gas equipment, does all types of pipe fitting within
the limits of the Manitoba Utility Gas Fitter’s Licence.
– Monitors, repairs, services, and maintains company plant; locates plant for contractors, customers, and other utilities.
– Will respond to natural gas emergencies.
– Investigates high bill complaints and conducts combustion and efficiency tests.
– Interprets gas standards and codes to customers and dealers.
– Performs plant locations, monitors cathodic protection, and oversees construction adjacent to company plant.
– Performs gate station duties.
– Performs meter reading duties as required.
– Takes applications for new service or appliance installations, advises public regarding company policies, and maintains liaison
with heating dealers in the area.
– Assists in the training of junior personnel and is responsible for the coordination of crews and other resources.
– Demonstrates an understanding of the principles of combustion, properties, and migration of natural gas by following
Company procedures while working with natural gas and related equipment.
– Communicates clearly, concisely, and accurately, in writing and orally, with co-workers, customers, outside agencies and
general public on work-related matters as required.
– Operates vehicles in a safe, courteous, and responsible manner; performs minor checks and maintains vehicle in good and
clean condition; drives defensively; reports vehicle and equipment defects and accidents.
– Responsible for the neat and orderly housekeeping of work area, equipment, buildings, grounds, and vehicles.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
– Possess a “Class “A” or “B” Gas Fitter’s License issued by the Province of Manitoba certifying qualification (or equivalent
Provincial certification), two years’ experience as a licensed gas fitter, and a high school diploma.
– Ability to work cooperatively in a safe, courteous, and responsible manner with co-workers, customers and outside agencies
following the standards, procedures, and policies of the Company.
– Attend and satisfactorily complete training courses as assigned.
– Physically capable of performing duties associated with the position.

Possess current, valid Manitoba Driver’s Licence Class 5.
– Will be required to pass exams based on job experience and Company training courses.
– Will be required to work in a variety of settings both inside and outside.
– Will be required to work safely in all weather conditions recognizing special working conditions related to the gas industry.

NOTES:
– The successful applicant will reside within the applicable Customer Service Centre geographical boundary and within a
50-kilometre travelling distance from their assembly point during periods of standby. In the event that this requirement causes
the employee to incur incremental costs during periods of standby, such costs will be the employee’s responsibility. A
corporate vehicle will be provided for authorized personal commuting for period of standby.
– The selection process includes aptitude testing, a panel interview, and a one-day Manitoba Hydro sponsored Skills
Assessment and Trades Orientation program. Candidates selected for an interview must provide a current driver’s abstract at
the time of their interview.
