MCSC’s core training programs have successfully recruited and trained over 20 new students for the construction industry this summer with several landing jobs upon completion. The first, Foundations in Heavy Construction, trained and certified 16 students in partnership with Manitoba Heavy Construction Association (MHCA).  Upon completion, the cohort was introduced to employers in the construction industry, with 7 students recently securing employment at the following companies: Maple Leaf Construction, Siene River Construction, Victor Construction, Upscale Project Ltd., Proline Painting, and Quentin Lowes Drywall.

The second core Demand LED program is Concrete Forms. Designed to address labour shortages with a focus in developing skills in concrete forms. This summer, 13 students have successfully completed the program with networking opportunities to follow. MCSC is working closely with the Carpenters Union, Local 343 to recruit, train and employ graduates upon completion. Two students have already found employment with Bird Construction.

The partnerships and the mentorships from everyone who works with MCSC has helped with the success of the Demand LED programs. The goal was to recruit and train up to 20 people in both programs in 2023, with MCSC exceeding that benchmark already this summer. Congrats to all the graduating students of both Demand LED programs. A third Foundations in Heavy Construction course is scheduled in January 2024.
