On June 21, 2023, the Manitoba Construction Sector Council had the opportunity to showcase its accomplishments from the previous year during the Annual General Meeting held at the The Leaf in Assiniboine Park.

MCSC partnered with many newcomer agencies to help extend our reach to newcomers seeking employment and allow for mentorship opportunities to ensure a smooth transition to construction employment. As a result of these collaborative efforts, 56 newcomers were successfully employed, further enriching our diverse workforce.

Along with our partners, we are advancing the number of Indigenous people who are employed in the construction sector. Training includes job readiness, certified safety, and construction training taught by Indigenous leaders. In light of our endeavors, we have successfully placed 92 indigenous women from nine different communities into various employment opportunities within the construction industry. These individuals have undergone comprehensive training programs, equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in their roles. We are proud to contribute to the empowerment and economic growth of Indigenous communities by promoting employment and training opportunities in the construction sector.

As a way to engage youth, MCSC partnered with a new startup company, Something We Love, to develop a residential and commercial build game to showcase the many skilled trades required to build a home and a commercial building. Along with that, MCSC reached over 3000 youth through career awareness presentations, eight summer camps with over 100 students attending, as well as, 14 career fairs.
