Welcome to the fourth Manitoba Women in Trades Conference.
The Manitoba Construction Sector Council (MCSC) strengthens Manitoba’s construction industry by supporting the attraction and retention of new workers, delivering relevant skills-based training, and promoting technology adoption to build a resilient, innovative, and future-ready workforce.
To advance this goal, MCSC hosts a biennial Women in Trades Conference that brings together women and LGBTQ2S+ individuals currently working in the construction industry, as well as those exploring pathways into construction careers. The conference also welcomes men working in the construction sector who recognize their role as stakeholders in equity initiatives.
The Purpose of this Conference
- The purpose of the Manitoba Women in Trades Conference is to:
- Create a safe, inclusive space for women and LGBTQ2S+ members to learn, share experiences, network, and grow in their construction careers
- Address systemic challenges and identify practical solutions to overcome inequities within the construction sector
- Engage men as active stakeholders in equity initiatives, emphasizing psychological safety and practical, action-oriented planning
- Develop leadership skills that support career progression from labourer to journeyperson to foreperson roles
- Build financial literacy and explore entrepreneurship opportunities within the construction industry
- Foster mentorship opportunities among women to strengthen community connections and peer support
- Share best practices from northern First Nations communities offering women-focused carpentry programs
- Learn from educators about mentorship programs designed to support young women entering the trades
Attendees include:
superintendents, estimators, project managers, employers, employees of construction companies or suppliers of construction companies, educators, government, newcomers, Indigenous people, youth, new entrants, skilled labourers, journey people and supervisors.
