Event Description

Welcome to the fourth Manitoba Women in Trades Conference.

The Manitoba Construction Sector Council (MCSC) strengthens Manitoba’s construction industry by supporting the attraction and retention of new workers, delivering relevant skills-based training, and promoting technology adoption to build a resilient, innovative, and future-ready workforce.

To advance this goal, MCSC hosts a biennial Women in Trades Conference that brings together women and LGBTQ2S+ individuals currently working in the construction industry, as well as those exploring pathways into construction careers. The conference also welcomes men working in the construction sector who recognize their role as stakeholders in equity initiatives.

Purpose of the Manitoba Women in Trades Conference

The Manitoba Women in Trades Conference is dedicated to advancing inclusion, equity, and leadership development for women and gender-diverse individuals across Manitoba’s construction industry. This event aims to:

  • Create a Safe and Inclusive Space: Provide an environment where women and LGBTQ2S+ members can connect, learn, share experiences, and develop their careers in the skilled trades.
  • Address Systemic Challenges: Explore barriers within the construction sector and identify practical, action-oriented solutions that promote equity and fair opportunities.
  • Engage Men as Allies: Involve men as active partners in advancing equity initiatives by fostering psychological safety and shared accountability.
  • Develop Leadership Pathways: Build leadership and mentorship skills that support career growth from labourer to journeyperson to foreperson roles.
  • Promote Mental Health and Well-Being: Strengthen psychological safety and mental health supports for women and gender-diverse workers in trades.
  • Highlight Indigenous-Led Successes: Share best practices from Indigenous carpentry and construction training programs that create meaningful employment and long-term career pathways for women.
  • Support Youth Engagement: Showcase initiatives that encourage young women to pursue high school vocational programs and skilled trades careers.
  • Explore Emerging Opportunities: Introduce participants to evolving career possibilities in sustainability, green construction, and construction technology.

Attendees include:

superintendents, estimators, project managers, employers, employees of construction companies or suppliers of construction companies, educators, government, newcomers, Indigenous people, youth, new entrants, skilled labourers, journey people and supervisors.
